TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR VIDEOGRAPHY SERVICES

Note: This application is open to videographers based in any province, but please be aware that Zimbabwe Youth Biodiversity Network (ZYBN) is not in a position to cover accommodation and travel to/from Mutasa, so applicants should either be based in Mutasa, Nyanga, Mutare or be willing to make their own travel arrangements.

  1.  Introduction

ZYBN is a youth led non‐governmental organization that promotes youth participation in biodiversity conservation through advocacy, awareness raising initiatives and capacity building. ZYBN is seeking a videographer on a short‐term basis to capture a series of video interviews, for a project on saving the samanga monkeys and youth engagement in biodiversity conservation, in Mutasa district, to produce a short documentary.

  1.  Objectives of the consultancy

Through this video we are seeking to share the learning’s from the project with young people, civil society organizations, donors, authorities and local & international communities. The video will include interviews with participants – ranging from authorities to community members and youth. It will explore issues, approaches and challenges on the link between youth participation and nature conservation; as well as co‐existence between the community and the samanga monkeys. We are seeking someone to record the video footage in person and we will then require editing of the video.

  1.  Overview of the project

In Zimbabwe, ZYBN has been working to raise awareness and promote biodiversity. In our programs we support civil society’s involvement, particularly youth groups, in crucial decision‐making processes on biodiversity protection and sustainable development. As part of our programs, ZYBN, will be working in Mutasa to bring together youth individuals, youth organizations and policymakers. The project aims to gather and share experiences of the communities approach to protect the unique samanga monkeys and explore youth participation in conserving local biodiversity.

  1.  Methodology

The consultant will mainly work with ZYBN’s project officer to manage the interviews, questions and timings of video interviews and provide a shot list for context footage. Working to an agreed schedule the consultant will be required to:

  • Attend a planning meeting (online/physically) upon selection.
  • Be available for the project between 1 January and 21 February 2020, exact timings are to be confirmed.
  • Film short interviews with participants and footage of the samanga monkeys to collect video context footage.

 

  1. Deliverables
  • Provide footage of the video to ZYBN within three weeks, after filming.
  • A one minute documentary trailer.
  • One final edited 25‐30 minute video.
  1. Consultancy period

The consultancy period will be during 1 and 31 January 2020, exact timing to be confirmed based on availability. Video to be delivered by 21 February 2020.

 

  1. Copyright

As part of this consultancy, the videographer is required to read, understand and sign an agreement relinquishing certain rights on the documentary ‐ BEFORE the start of the contract.

 

  1. Payment

This will be based on negotiations between ZYBN and the Company. All invoices shall be paid on completion of agreed upon milestones.

 

  1. Competencies
  • Experience in filming, editing and production.
  • Demonstrable experience and production of short films and videos made for the purposes of environmental issues, communicating community perspectives and policy
  • Some understanding of social or biodiversity/related issues in Zimbabwe.

  • Sample works,
  • Project delivery plan,
  • Methodology and work‐plan for performing the assignment
